LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy
Learning should be engaging and fun whilst at the same time connecting current scientific research to education. My teaching philosophy is to engage and motivate students in their disciplinary areas of study through sound pedagogical practice whilst creating an open, caring and inclusive community approach to university life. I currently teach a range of units of study across all years, have won several teaching awards and really enjoy contributing to the overall student experience whilst students are at university and as they progress into their careers.
In the past few years I have supervised and co-supervised several Hons, PhD and MRes students:
Hayley Winch (Hons, USYD) - Scorched survival: how extrinsic factors influence the rescue and rehabilitation of a critically endangered possum
Jasmin Kamarulzaman (Masters, USYD) - The impact of atmospheric heat waves on the immune function of the Sydney rock oyster
Eva Kessler (Hons, USYD/Universitat Munster) - The impact of tidal level and heat waves on the immune responses of the Sydney rock oyster, Saccostrea glomerata, in intertidal habitats
Livian Lai (Hons, USYD) - The effect of atmospheric heat waves and surface temperature of a native and invasive oyster in Australia.
Vineet Vaibhav (PhD candidate, Macquarie University) - Identification of disease resistant protein biomarkers in Sydney rock oysters
Priscila Goncalves (PhD candidate, Macquarie University) - Adapting to climate change: Intracellular responses to ocean acidification and warming in two populations of oysters
Aroon Melwani (PhD candidate, Macquarie University) - The biology of environmental stress: adaptive responses of Sydney rock oysters (Saccostrea glomerata) from an urganized estuary
Jessica Thompson (MRes, Macquarie University) - Detecting introgression in Sydney rock oysters using next generation sequencing approach
Maxime Lepretre (MSc at Universite de Pau et des Pays de l'Adours and Macquarie University) - Proteomic clues to the identification of winter mortality disease-resistant biomarkers in selectively bred Sydney rock oysters (Saccostrea glomerata)
