Professor Pasupathy is a senior academic and clinician specialising in Maternal and Fetal Medicine, holding substantive leadership roles within the University of Sydney. Appointed Professor of Maternal and Fetal Medicine in 2018 and commencing in 2020, he became the Inaugural Director of the Reproduction and Perinatal Centre (RPC) in 2021 and currently serves as Deputy Head of School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health. His work is recognised for advancing maternal and newborn health through translational research, multidisciplinary collaboration, and system-level leadership.
Academic and Research Leadership
Since establishing the RPC, Professor Pasupathy has guided its development into a leading centre for reproductive and perinatal science. The Centre has produced more than 475 publications, secured over $18 million in competitive research funding, and supported the training of emerging researchers through multiple PhD scholarships. He was the joint Head of Discipline of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology between 2020 and 2026. He established and co-led the Sydney Health Partners Clinical Academic Grouping in Reproductive, Maternal and Newborn Health between 2022 and 2025, strengthening research translation and partnerships across the health system.
Prior to his appointment in Sydney, he was Reader and Consultant in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s Health Partners (King’s College London), where he led the perinatal epidemiology and statistics group. His research portfolio includes contributing and leading in more than AUD $46 million in programme funding, over 160 peer-reviewed publications, and 17 state or national reports and guidelines. He has held more than 70 committee appointments, including national and international advisory roles, and currently serves as Chair of the FIGO Committee on Infections in Pregnancy (2025–2027), having served as Vice Chair (2024–2025). His academic leadership spans undergraduate and postgraduate training programs, including roles as Training Programme Director for Maternal–Fetal Medicine, Integrated Academic Training Lead, and Postgraduate Coordinator for the Clinical MD/PhD in Women’s Health at King’s College London.
