BIO
Delyse Leadbeatter researches and teaches in the areas of dental education and higher education. She is the Director of Academic Education for the Sydney Dental School and her interests in teaching and research are grounded in the idea that higher education is a complex social phenomenon. Delyse has a particular interest in researching inquiry learning and students as partners in all aspects of university endeavour. A current focus is in curriculum co-design as a methodology for involving partners such as students, professionals and community representatives in the education of contemporary practitioners.
Delyse's PhD studies explored the ways dental and oral health therapy students put together, or integrate their learning. The thesis is a coherent collection of two theoretical and two empirical studies that advance scholarly understanding of integration and explore ways that integration can be brought more visibly into the dental school curriculum. Her current research focuses on three related themes:
1) participatory pedagogies and graduate outcomes
2) professional learning and workplace learning
3) effective approaches to teaching social competency and person-centred care
