RESEARCH INTERESTs

Through previous Wildlife Health education and training oversees, her PhD at the School of Veterinary Science and working at the Veterinary Pathology Diagnostic Services for many years Caroline developed a robust expertise in disease testing, gross and clinical pathology, and advanced laboratory techniques. This foundational training set the stage for various field projects and her subsequent research role in the Bushfire Recovery Multiregional Species Koala Health Research Project at the SSVS.

Caroline's research interests are specifically devoted in koala health, focusing on critical areas such as disease detection, the impact of xenobiotics on health, and the safety of therapeutic interventions. Caroline's studies have notably highlighted the immunological consequences of koalas' selective feeding behaviour on eucalypt plant toxins, contributing valuable insights into wildlife health management.

Building on this foundation, Caroline aims to delve deeper into the metabolic interactions between dietary plant toxins, pharmaceuticals and anthropogenic pollutants in koalas. This future research is poised to enhance understanding of koala metabolism and assess the safety of pharmaceutical interventions used in wildlife care, ensuring these interventions are effective without disrupting koalas' essential detoxification pathways, the applicant's work is set to make significant contributions to both veterinary medicine and conservation efforts.

My research aligns with the Faculty of Science Research Strengths - Understanding Life on Earth, Fundamental Laws of Nature, Healthy Animals, Preventing and Treating Disease & Disorder, Healthy Ecosystems, Decision-Making for a Sustainable Future, Data and Decisions.
