RESEARCH INTERESTs
Professor Pulitano’s research interests focus on overcoming the time limitations that constrain organ transplantation by developing long-term organ preservation and optimisation technologies. His program spans the full translational pipeline—from advanced ex vivo perfusion platforms and real-time functional viability assessment, to strategies for organ repair, regeneration, and targeted modification during preservation. A key objective is to convert preservation into an active therapeutic window, enabling intervention before implantation and supporting new clinical models in which organs can be safely maintained for several days prior to transplant. This work integrates surgical innovation with bioengineering to improve organ utilisation, expand transplant access, and ultimately enhance recipient outcomes.
Another area of research is Liver Transplant Oncology. I am developing new protocols for the management of patients with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma and colorectal metastases
