Garrett is currently completing Groundbreaking: A Cultural History of Earth's Tunnels (St. Martin's Press/Macmillan, forthcoming 2028), the first comprehensive cultural history of subterranean passageways. Spanning two millennia and eight countries, the book examines how tunnels-from ancient aqueducts to the Large Hadron Collider-have transformed the ways societies move, connect, wage conflict, and imagine the world beneath their feet.

He is the founder of Underground Media, a production company dedicated to decoding the cultural significance of subterranean space through books, photography, and audio projects. As part of this broader commitment to public scholarship, Garrett hosts the Tenacity podcast, produced by Ubisoft Entertainment, which explores human resilience through stories of survival, creativity, and endurance.

His recent appearances include the feature documentary Underland (2024), based on Robert Macfarlane's acclaimed book, where his expertise helps bring underground worlds to life for wide audiences. He also continues to develop multimodal research outputs, integrating photography, film, and sound to make hidden infrastructures accessible to broader publics.
