BIO
Ben Fahimnia is a Professor and Chair in Supply Chain Management at the University of Sydney, where his contributions to research and education led to his recognition as the youngest Australian Full Professor in 2016. He also serves as Director of the Australasian Supply Chain & Logistics Association (ASCLA) and is the Founding Director of Chance and Choice Lab and Sound of Silence Productions.
Professor Fahimnia has a multidisciplinary background spanning engineering, business and management, psychology, and dramatic arts. This diverse foundation empowers him to leverage expertise across multiple disciplines to assist organisations design intelligent, resilient, and sustainable supply chains through the integration of AI, advanced analytics, behavioural science, and systems thinking. A global leader in applied and problem-driven research, Professor Fahimnia leads multidisciplinary teams dedicated to developing innovative decision-support frameworks that improve organisational performance, national resilience, and human decision-making under uncertainty.
A strategic thinker and industry influencer, Professor Fahimnia works with business leaders, policymakers, and university executives to identify emerging challenges and translate them into opportunities for research and education. He leads cross-faculty initiatives, bringing together diverse research teams to tackle complex supply chain challenges across a wide range of industries. His research has attracted over $130 million in funding from government agencies, industry, and academic institutions. Frequently consulted by governments, regulatory bodies, and organisations ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, he provides expert guidance on AI-enabled supply chain transformation, resilience intelligence, digital supply chain technologies, behavioural decision-making, supply chain risk and resilience, and sustainable operations.
Professor Fahimnia has dedicated much of his career to understanding and measuring human strengths and their alignment with various career paths. His pioneering work in this field led to the creation of Chance and Choice Lab, an initiative spanning multiple social media platforms, where he applies his research-driven capability assessment frameworks to help individuals discover their strengths and make informed career and life decisions. More than a longitudinal research project, Chance and Choice Lab serves as a research and innovation platform where individual cases are examined to develop, refine, and validate these capability assessment frameworks. Through this initiative, Professor Fahimnia bridges the gap between research and real-world application and empowers individuals to unlock their potential and take control of their future by making confident and purpose-driven career and life decisions.
A prolific author and sought-after keynote speaker, Professor Fahimnia has published extensively in leading academic journals and regularly delivers keynote addresses, executive education programs, and industry masterclasses for governments, businesses, and academic audiences worldwide. He serves as Editor for International Journal of Production Economics, Department Editor for IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and sits on the editorial boards of Transportation Research Part E and Decision Sciences.
Professor Fahimnia has also played a pivotal role in shaping multidisciplinary education, leading the development, planning, and promotion of cross-faculty teaching programs. His efforts have attracted major sponsorships, academic partnerships, and thousands of students worldwide. He has received numerous awards for his innovative teaching methods, practice-oriented education, and leadership in developing executive and professional education programs.
Outside academia, Professor Fahimnia combines his technical expertise with passion for storytelling and creativity in theatre and media production. As an executive producer, he leads theatrical and media projects that explore human behaviour, society, and culture. Drawing on his experience in script development, dramaturgy, casting, marketing, and financial management, he blends academic insight with artistic vision, making a meaningful impact in both scholarly and creative domains.
