RESEARCH INTERESTs

Dr Taba’s research focuses on the optimisation and clinical translation of advanced medical imaging technologies, particularly for breast and lung cancer diagnosis. His core interests include image quality assessment, observer performance, human perception, and the development of evidence-based imaging protocols that improve diagnostic accuracy while minimising patient risk. A major strand of his work centres on propagation-based phase-contrast CT (PB-CT), where he has played a leading role in national initiatives and clinical evaluation studies, including the world’s first pilot comparison of PB-CT and mammography. He is also internationally recognised for his contributions to radiologist performance assessment and training through large-scale programs such as BREAST, as well as for supervising translational research spanning automated image quality assessment, dose monitoring, AI-based cancer detection, and workforce training tools now adopted in clinical practice. Across all areas, his research is driven by a commitment to translation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and delivering measurable impact on clinical decision-making, policy, and community health.
