Professor McBratney has held a number of influential leadership and service roles within the University of Sydney and the global soil science community. These roles reflect his sustained contribution to research leadership, journal stewardship, academic governance and international disciplinary development.

● Member, Sydney Environment Institute
● Member, The University of Sydney Net Zero Institute
Through these roles, Alex has contributed to the development of soil science as an international discipline, supported major research and policy conversations, and helped advance the role of soil science in addressing agricultural, environmental and sustainability challenges.
