Associate Professor Alejandro Montoya is a chemical engineer in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney and the Director of the Environmental Engineering degree. His research focuses on sustainable process engineering, with particular emphasis on advanced electrocatalysis, electrochemical resource recovery, critical minerals, and alternative fuels to support the global transition to net zero. He leads the Alternative Fuel and Energy Laboratory and is actively engaged in industry-linked and international research collaborations across Australia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Associate Professor Montoya has extensive experience in curriculum development, professional accreditation, and postgraduate supervision, and his work integrates fundamental science with applied engineering solutions for energy, water, and environmental challenges.
