Yoko’s research investigates the interface between language, culture, and social cognition. She specialises in Japanese linguistics, with a particular focus on the grammar-pragmatics interface and the construction of identity through language. Her recent work extends to the analysis of political discourse, gender, and power in Japan. She also engages in cross-linguistic typology and comparative studies of East Asian languages.
