RESEARCH INTERESTs

Tom’s primary clinical research activity is in the study of psychological and physical stressors and their impact on health risk. Additionally, he is an active researcher related to end-of-life care and bereavement as well as nurse practitioner scope of practice. Current areas of research include:

  • The impact of hospitalisation on spousal and carer cardiovascular health risk
  • Cardiovascular health in bereavement
  • Triggers of Acute Myocardial Infarction: role of heavy physical exertion, anger and respiratory infection
  • Risk reduction in bereavement and other stress states (eg anger, physical activity, respiratory infection etc)
  • Relationship between work stress, quality of life and heart rate variability
  • Complications following acute coronary interventions
  • Nurse practitioner Quality use of medicines
  • Nurse Practitioner Quality use of Radiology
  • Standards of practice for RNs and NPs.
  • Patient assessment in emergency
