BIO

Tim Roberts is Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Sydney and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal North Shore Hospital. He is a highly experienced cataract surgeon and glaucoma specialist with over 25 years’ experience in private practice in Sydney. He undertook his medical training at the University of New South Wales and completed specialist training in ophthalmology at Sydney Eye Hospital. His post-graduate qualifications include a Master of Medicine from the University of Sydney.

A/Prof. Roberts is an active member and Fellow of RANZCO, having been NSW QEC chair where he supervised ophthalmology trainees for RANZCO Board of Examiners. He worked with the Far North Queensland Indigenous Eye Program and more recently the Myanmar Eye Care program and has been honoured with Global Achievement Awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and other international societies for his contributions made to scientific and educational programs and to the field of ophthalmology.

A/Prof. Roberts is actively involved in teaching and clinical research, with interests in new generation formulas for calculating IOL power; femtosecond lasers in cataract surgery; presbyopia-correcting IOLs; digital imaging systems and toric lenses in astigmatism management; complex cataract surgery and ocular trauma repair; MIGS (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery); fixed-combination and slow-release glaucoma therapies; and medical ethics and education. His Master of Medicine research thesis examined nocturnal cardiorespiratory risk factors in glaucoma. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and editorials, and continues to present his research locally and internationally. He is the Academic Lead for Ophthalmology within the SERT (Surgical Education, Research and Training) Institute at RNSH and currently serves as the academic coordinator at the Northern Clinical School, University of Sydney

A/Prof. Roberts has held many local, regional and international positions, including editorial board member for the American Academy of Ophthalmology Lens and Cataract textbook, Cataract Section Editor for Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology, International Council of Ophthalmology education program and National Medical Director of Vision Eye Institute Australia. He sits on various government, industry and professional advisory boards.
