BIO

A lecturer in the Department of Media and Communications, Tiania's current research focuses on the testimonies of Bosnian Muslim survivors of concentration camps and other prisons established during the 1990s Balkans wars, as well as the nature of their post-release lives. Specifically, she is interested in how the fundamental principles of the ‘humanitarian’ form of journalism can provide an ethical and methodological framework for the pursuit of scholarly work done at the intersection of journalism studies, war studies, and history.

Tiania completed her PhD at the University of Queensland, Australia, prior to which she took an MA in War Studies at King’s College, University of London. Before her transition to academia, Tiania had an extensive career as an investigative and defence journalist, reporting from Australia, Bosnia, South Africa, the Middle East, and the UK, including theatres of war in Afghanistan and Iraq.
