LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy
Suzi enjoys teaching undergraduate biomechanics and motor control and learning units to equip our students with the lates industry skills and experiences. She believes she needs to be a leader in her research field so she can embed that research into her teaching to enable her students to develop relevant industry skills which in turn will deliver improvements in the field. The concussion study is put to good use in her teaching: she shows students how the biomechanical principles of balance and stability relate to tackling techniques, and then teaches them movement analysis so they can identify issues that can inform the exercises prescribed to the athletes.
Suzi is excited to have a growing number of PhD candidates with whom to collaborate across from multiple disciplines. Those PhD students comprise a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, medical engineer, sports psychologist, podiatrist and of course, exercise and sports scientists.
“Our research outcomes are better when we include collaborators from diverse discipline areas who bring their own expertise to the team to help generate knowledge about the mechanics of injury,” Suzi observes.
