BIO

BA(Hons) W.Aust.; MA Br.Col. ; PhD Macq.

Susan McGrath-Champ is Professor of Work and Employment Relations at the University of Sydney Business School. Susan's areas of expertise are workplace and employment relations, human resource management, labour geography and gender.

Susan is a leading global scholar in the working conditions of teachers, employment conditions within global production networks (supply chains), as well as organisational and people management in crisis periods. Susan's scholarly work has always been interdisciplinary, and her research pioneered the interface between employment (labour) relations and economic geography. Arising from this work, geographical thinking and awareness have nowadays been taken up within mainstream studies of work and employment.

Susan engages directly through her research with industry organisations. The implementation and impact of her research has been demonstrated by proven outcomes and public influence, including government commitments to education policy change, and provision of an evidence base upon which the teachers' union in New South Wales (Australia) made claims on all major government parties at State and National elections for improved conditions for teachers. Susan has been an expert witness to multiple parliamentary and public inquiries on the teaching profession.

Susan has been a visiting scholar at the University of Georgia, Athens (USA), University of Manchester (UK) and Luleå University of Technology (Sweden). She is active in research and in editorial board roles for the Economic and Labour Relations Review and Labour and Industry: A journal of the social and economic relations of work. Prior to her academic roles, Susan held research roles in industry and consulting in Australia and Canada.
