Integrated AgriSense investigates robotic and distributed sensing methods for mapping soil nutrients and moisture. During his Vonwiller appointment (February 2024–February 2026), Thien led sensing, spatial mapping and robotic integration, working directly with soil scientists and NSW farmers. He coordinated a five-person engineering and research team during 2024–2025. The work combined probabilistic mapping, adaptive sampling, sensor calibration and ROS2 mission, navigation and arm-control software. A semi-autonomous soil-sampling and analysis prototype was evaluated in a three-day pasture trial with 30 samples and laboratory comparisons. Sample transfer, calibration and cleaning remained manual. Outputs include research on multivariate active learning, heterogeneous soil-moisture sensing, and robotic soil sampling and analysis. Project leadership: Professor Salah Sukkarieh. Collaborator: Dr Hongjun Yu.
