BIO

Roel Boomsma is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Accounting, Governance and Regulation at the University of Sydney Business School. He previously held a position as Assistant Professor of Accounting at the Amsterdam Business School, University of Amsterdam. Roel's research is driven by an interest in the complexities of accounting and accountability in contexts where performance is difficult to measure, challenging prevailing assumptions and uncovering the institutional pressures that shape accountability in organisations and society. His work spans accountability challenges across a range of organisational contexts, including development NGOs, amateur sports organisations, and the accounting profession. His research has appeared in leading international journals, including Accounting, Organizations and Society, the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. He serves on the editorial board of Qualitative Research in Accounting & Management. Roel has received several awards for teaching and educational innovation across programmes in accounting, auditing, and accountability.
