BIO
Rob Vandenberg received his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Sydney in 1989 and then did his first postdoc at the Garvan Institute, working with Peter Schofield and John Shine to understand the agonist/antagonist interactions with the Glycine Receptor.
He received a Human Fronteirs of Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship to work with Susan Amara and Mike Kavanaugh at the Vollum Institute where he developed his interests in neurotransmitter transporters. In 1995, he returned to Sydney and set up the Transporter Biolgy group in the Discipline of Pharmacology.
In 2010 he was appointed as Head of Discipline of Pharmacology and has overseen the expansion of the Discipline with the recruitment of a number of high profile academics
From 2019 to 2022, he was Deputy Head of the School of Medical Sciences and from 2020 to 2022 he was the Director of Academic Career Development.
