Phoebe is a Paediatrician, Infectious diseases Physician, and an Associate Professor within the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney, Australia. She works as a Staff Specialist clinician within The Sydney Children's Hospital Network and with the policy group of the National Centre for Immunisation and Research Surveillance [NCIRS], supporting the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation [ATAGI].
Phoebe completed her DPhil [PhD] as a Nuffield Department of Medicine scholar with the University of Oxford, undertaking a clinical trial for neonates with sepsis in rural Kenya, within the Oxford Tropical Medicine network in Kilifi, Kenya. Phoebe is an NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow whose research is focused on antimicrobial resistance in children, particularly within resource-constrained settings. She is the coordinating principal investigator of the Neonatal Sepsis in Southeast Asia and the Pacific study (www.neoseap.com) and is appointed as an advisor to the World Health Organization’s Paediatric Antibiotic Development Program (PADO) and Research Agenda into AMR on Human Health.
Phoebe leads a number of clinical trials in paediatric infectious diseases across Australia and Southeast Asia, aiming to reduce the infectious diseases burden responsible for significant infant and child mortality. These include the MRFF-funded FOSUTI trial, a Gates Foundation funded congenital syphilis trial (CARES-1), and a multicentre international study working to identify targets for a future vaccine against neonatal sepsis.
Associate Professor Williams is a member of the Sydney Southeast Asia centre, Sydney Vietnam Institute and the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute (Sydney ID).
