This is a comprehensive formative, process, impact and costing evaluation of a large-scale initiative being introduced as a state-wide service across NSW. The Get Healthy Service is an individually tailored, advice and behaviour change counselling service delivered via telephone and internet, seeking to reduce NSW adults’ risks in relation to physical activity, healthy eating and weight management and chronic disease.
6. Get Healthy Stay Healthy (GHSH): An extended contact intervention delivered via mobile telephone text messaging following the ‘Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service. Fjeldsoe B, Eakin E, Phongsavan P, Bauman A.
7. Understanding the impact of social support, social capital, social connectedness on the health and health service use of Australians in mid - later life. Bauman, Redman, Nutbeam, Byles, Broom et al….Phongsavan [AI].
This component of the NHMRC Strategic Awards (NHMRC ID: 402810)‘Understanding the impact of social, economic and geographic disadvantage on the health of Australians in mid - later life: Where are the opportunities for prevention?’ examines social, economic and environment factors (SEEF) in 100,000 Australians aged 45 and over (from the 45 and Up Cohort Study). The study examines the relationship between social capital, social support, social connectedness and resilience on health (e.g. smoking, physical activity, obesity) and health service use.
8. Evaluating the impact of a park redesign on population physical activity levels and community social cohesion in socio-economically disadvantaged areas.Phongsavan, Merom, Bowles H, van der Ploeg H.
A cohort before and after study to assess the impact of urban park redesign and expansion in a disadvantaged community on physical activity, obesity, social cohesion, sense of community and safety. Triangulation of data sources - park usage observation, intercept surveys and household surveys conducted to assess upgrade impacts on individuals and the community.
