Throughout his career Peter has demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has been actively involved with the “hands on” delivery of medical education at the undergraduate level since 1994 in bedside tutorials, lectures and clinical assessments. He has personally participated in all elements of teaching and assessment programs at the student-teacher interface over the years. He understands the importance and challenges of engaging busy clinician teachers as they endeavour to contribute to a complex educational program. He has a particular interest in the development of curricula in the field of Sleep Medicine, and undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This has included developing sleep-related course work for other disciplines. In his previous role as Head of the Discipline of Sleep Medicine, he led the development of Australia’s first curriculum in Sleep Medicine for medical graduates, at the University of Sydney. Furthermore, in 2010-11 he led a review of the Masters in Sleep Medicine Program and the development of a marketing plan that produced a doubling of enrolments in the subsequent year. He is now assisting with the renewal of content for this distance education program to ensure that learning outcomes are maintained. There are considerable opportunities for further development of sleep education, and he has the skills and interest to actively participate in the development of new curricula and innovative modes of delivery.
