SERVICE & LEADERSHIP SUMMARy
A/Prof Pegah Varamini provides sustained leadership and service at the university, national, and international levels, with a focus on research governance, discipline advancement, and translational impact in pharmaceutical sciences and cancer research.
At the University of Sydney, she is Co-Chair of the NanoPharma Cluster within the Sydney Nano Institute’s NanoHealth Network, contributing to strategic interdisciplinary initiatives addressing major health challenges. She serves on key governance committees, including the Faculty of Medicine and Health Academic Board and the FMH Scholarship Sub-Committee, and has led mentoring and leadership initiatives for early- and mid-career academics.
At the national level, A/Prof Varamini is a member of the Senior Leadership Group of the Cancer Research Network (CRN) (since 2025), contributing to strategic coordination of cancer research across the University and its clinical partners. She also serves on organising committees for major scientific conferences and contributes to competitive grant and fellowship review panels, including NHMRC and Breast Cancer Now (UK).
At the international level, she serves as an Australian scientific advisor and representative to the World Health Organization’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative (WHO GBCI), contributing to the development of the WHO Implementation Framework for comprehensive cancer management. In parallel, she maintains active international collaborations and provides leadership in translation and industry engagement, supporting the commercialisation of first-in-class therapeutic technologies.
