His major research interests are:

- Paediatric Thyroid Disease: A/Prof. Benitez-Aguirreis the Clinical Lead for the Establishment of the Australia New Zealand Paediatric Thyroid Cancer Register.

- Prevention of Diabetes ComplicationsA/Prof. Benitez-Aguirre has a particular interest in translational research, personalised medicine and improving models of care for patients with complex chronic conditions.

- Digital health and data analytics.He is the Chief Medical Information Officer (CXIO) for the Sydney Children's Hospital Network (SCHN).
