SERVICE & LEADERSHIP SUMMARy

Dr Nicolle Kirkwood provides significant service and leadership within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science, the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney, and the wider veterinary profession. As Primary Care Unit Head (Camperdown), she leads a busy clinical teaching service, working closely with her Camden counterpart to ensure cohesive cross-campus delivery, high-quality student experiences, and a supportive, collaborative team culture. Her leadership includes staff mentoring, pastoral support, and active contribution to hospital-wide operational discussions.

Nicolle plays a key role in student selection as a longstanding member of the SSVS Admissions Committee, contributing to rigorous and profession-aligned assessment of DVM applicants. Until 2025, she also served as a Category A veterinarian on the University’s Animal Ethics Committee, reviewing applications and adverse events to ensure ethical and responsible research practice.

In 2026, she was invited to serve as Specialist Examination Committee (SEC) Chair for the ANZCVS Veterinary Practice – Small Animal (Primary Care) Chapter. She was appointed to this role in recognition of her extensive university teaching experience, assessment expertise, and board-certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine and Feline Practice). Her focus will be on enhancing the quality, consistency, and fairness of College examinations.

Nicolle also supports community veterinary care through her leadership and clinical participation in the Hope Street Baptist Care outreach clinic, providing essential services to vulnerable populations and valuable experiential learning for DVM students.
