- Neurobiology of methamphetamine and opioid addiction
- Neurobiology of social behaviour and social motivation
- Cognitive flexibility, compulsivity and punishment insensitivity
- Novel pharmacotherapies for substance use disorders and other under-served psychiatric disorders
- Translatable biomarkers of drug action and substance use disorders, including EEG signatures and blood biomarkers of central receptor engagement
- Oxytocin and novel OXTR agonists
- Psychedelics and novel non-hallucinogenic 5-HT2A agonists
- Astrocytic and noradrenergic contributions to reward and drug seeking
- Animal models of substance use disorders and social deficits, including intravenous self-administration, behavioural economics and operant social reward
- Preclinical drug development in partnership with industry
- In vivo neural recording (fibre photometry, EEG, functional ultrasound imaging)
- Viral-mediated neural manipulations (CRISPR-Cas9; DREADDs; optogenetics)
- Super-resolution microscopy of drug-induced structural plasticity (dendritic spines, microglia, perineuronal nets)
Dr Everett's research aligns with the Faculty of Science Research Strengths - Brain, Behaviour and Cognition, Preventing and Treating Disease & Disorder.
Dr Everett is affiliated with and located at the Brain and Mind Centre, as a group leader within the Translational Psychopharmacology Team.
