BIO
Dr Nathan Duignan is a mathematical researcher and lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney. His work sits at the interface of geometry, dynamical systems, and plasma physics, where he studies how geometric structures shape the dynamics of physical systems.
He is particularly interested in how ideas from symplectic geometry and Hamiltonian mechanics can be used to understand nonlinear phenomena in classical and modern physics, such as magnetic confinement in fusion devices, celestial mechanics, and more broadly chaotic systems. His research bridges pure mathematics and applied science, combining rigorous theory with computational and physical insight.
Dr Duignan is also an active educator who coordinates and lectures across a range of undergraduate and advanced units in applied mathematics, and is known for developing innovative teaching tools that enhance engagement and academic integrity.
