BIO
Dr Miguel Felipe Valenzuela is a digital media artist and educator whose background spans over three decades in media production and over twenty years of dedicated teaching experience in both vocational and tertiary settings. His practice-based research is centered on exploring the intersection of art, technology, and obsolescence, delving into the works of renowned video artists who utilise now-outdated technology in their practice, examining the intricate relationship between obsolescence and digital renewal within media art.
Miguel works across various disciplines including media art, photography, drawing, digital and analogue video, as well as experimental sculpture, and has exhibited in Australia and internationally. His work Rhizome Prism, a collaborative interactive screen-based sculptural work, was part of the Vivid Lights festival in Sydney in 2015, an iteration of the work was installed at SFU in Vancouver, Canada, in the same year as part of ISEA 2015. He has recently collaborated on a large scale 360-degree immersive interactive installation titled Endless Sunbeams in Another Time in Lake Macquarie, Awabakal country, at the Multi-Arts Pavillion, MAP Mima, from September to December, 2024.
