BIO
Michelle Hall is an Associate Professor within Sydney Musculoskeletal Health and the School of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney. She completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne (2015) and the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program at Harvard Medical School (2016).
A leading expert in hip and knee osteoarthritis, Michelle's research focuses on lifestyle strategies-including exercise, sleep, and bracing-to reduce pain and improve quality of life. Her work has produced more than 120 peer-reviewed publications, including in Lancet Rheumatology and Annals of Internal Medicine. She has also informed international clinical guidelines and secured over AU$13 million in competitive funding. She currently leads multi-site clinical trials across Australia and the United States.
Michelle serves on the Board of Directors for the Osteoarthritis Research Society International and is co-Chair of the 2027 International Society of Biomechanics Congress to be hosted in Sydney.
She is also co-founder of the nationwide Biomechanics Research in Innovation Challenge (BRInC) and a Board Director of BrainSTEM, initiatives that advance STEM engagement and mentorship for young innovators. Through these roles, and her broader advocacy for equity, diversity, and women's participation in STEM, Michelle is committed to strengthening the next generation of research leaders.
