    RNZ • June 22, 2026 Radio New Zealand (National) - Midday Report - 10:31:37 AM Specialists are bracing for mass die-offs, now the arrival of a deadly strain of bird flu is confirmed. Testing has found the H5N1 strain in two migratory seabirds in Western Australia. An associate professor of zoology at Sydney University, Michelle Campbell-Ward, says the disease has caused significant mortality in wild birds around the world. (Radio New Zealand spoke to avian and wildlife veterinarian, Associate Professor Michelle Campbell-Ward, who is deputy director of the University’s Wildlife Health and Conservation Hospital.)
