BIO

Melanie (FAHA, FHEA) is a Group Leader at the Charles Perkins Centre, where she heads the Cardiometabolic Proteomics Group. Her research focuses on understanding why individuals with Type 2 Diabetes have an elevated risk of myocardial infarction and poorer post-event outcomes. Supported by competitive fellowships from the NHMRC (CJ Martin Research Fellowship), the Australian Research Council (Discovery Early Career Researcher Award, DECRA), and the National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship, her group works to translate molecular pathology findings into targets for clinical studies. Melanie's contributions to cardiovascular proteomics have earned her recognition as a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA).

Associate Professor White serves as the Vice President of the Australasian Proteomics Society (APS), and has contributed to the organising committee for the Annual Lorne Proteomics Symposium since 2019. She has led initiatives to establish travel awards for students and early-career researchers. Melanie currently sits on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Physiology – Heart and Circulatory Physiology and JMCC Plus. Her contributions have been recognised through the Paul Dudley White Award (2022) from the American Heart Association and the Early Career Award (2011) from the APS. She teaches undergraduate and medical science and postgraduate research students, contributing to education governance, mentoring, and teaching innovation across the School, Faculty, and University.
