Research projects & supervision summary

Aquib has led and contributed to research projects on polymeric materials for combating antimicrobial resistance and for drug delivery, including:

  • Polyurethane-based materials for biomedical applications (current, University of Sydney)
  • Bio-derived, biodegradable and redox-responsive antibacterial polymers, including lipoic acid-derived cationic polymers prepared by PET-RAFT polymerisation (Cluster for Advanced Macromolecular Design, UNSW Sydney)
  • Antimicrobial peptide-mimicking polymers: effect of polymer topology on antibacterial activity and biocompatibility, photoactivated antifungal polymers and nitric oxide-releasing dual-action systems
  • Mesoporous silica nanoparticles for targeted delivery of repurposed anticancer drugs

He has mentored undergraduate, honours and master’s students in their research projects, training them in polymer synthesis, physicochemical characterisation and antimicrobial and biocompatibility testing.
