Massimo Garbuio is the Director of the Executive MBA program and an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney Business School, where he has spent over fifteen years developing innovative educational programs and conducting applied research. His research focuses on behavioural strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and corporate governance with particular emphasis on the cognitive underpinnings of leadership and corporate outperformance as well as the role of design thinking in strategic option generation.

Dr Garbuio's scholarly work bridges theory and practice, publishing in top-tier journals including the Journal of Management, California Management Review, Journal of Product Innovation Management, and Academy of Management Learning & Education. He regularly collaborates with industry partners including the Australian Institute of Company Directors, McKinsey & Company and the Australian Investment Council, translating complex theoretical concepts into practical insights for executives and board directors. His thought leadership extends to media engagement through contributions to the McKinsey Quarterly, and regular features in AICD publications and the Australian Financial Review, where his insights on strategy and innovation reach broader professional audiences.

Dr. Garbuio has consulted to a variety of organisations in both the private and public sectors, and has taught across undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, and executive education programs, pioneering the systematic integration of design thinking methodology in entrepreneurship and strategy education as early as 2011. He previously served as Academic Director of the Master of Management (CEMS) program, a partnership of over 30 leading international institutions and 70 corporate and not-for-profit partners.

Massimo holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia and has also Masters from the University College London and the University of Pennsylvania.
