Martin Bugeja is a Professor of Accounting in the School of Accounting, Governance and Regulation and also Head of School since September 2026. Prior to rejoining the Univiersity of Sydney he was Professor of Accounting at the University of Technology Sydney where he was Discipline Group Head between 2015-2018. Martin previously held an academic position in the Discipline of Accounting at the University of Sydney (1997-2009).  Martin's current research interests focus on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, shareholder voting and board of director compensation.

His research has been published in leading international journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Businss Finance & Accounting and British Accounting Review. He has also published in leading Australian journals including Accounting and Finance and Abacus. He currently serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Accounting and Finance, and is on the editorial board of Accounting and Business Research and the Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics.
