LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy

Teaching Philosophy

Marloes' teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that education should empower students to think critically and engage with real-world challenges. She strives to create an environment where students feel encouraged to explore, question, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; it is about inspiring curiosity, fostering a passion for learning, and equipping students with the skills they need to succeed in a dynamic global landscape. Specifically, she believes that effective teaching involves engaging students actively in the learning process and adapting to diverse learning styles. Her approach is centered on using real-world examples and promoting collaborative learning to ensure that students can connect theoretical concepts to practical situations. Another key component of her teaching philosophy is creating an inclusive classroom where diverse perspectives are valued and all students feel supported.

Teaching Experience

Throughout her teaching career, she has taught several undergraduate and master's level courses within the broader strategy and management discipline. Specifically, she has taught six different courses-four at the University of Groningen and two at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). These courses include International Strategic Management, Organizational Structure, Multinationals and CSR, Responsible Business Professionalism, International Business Strategy, and a Master Thesis course in International Business and Management. As a tutorial teacher, she was responsible for organizing and preparing materials, ensuring that the course content was both relevant and engaging.

Supervision

In her current role, she is supervising a PhD student that aims to finish his PhD at the end of 2027. Together, they work on research questions related to climate change and innovation.
