Maria is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Fellow in Innovation Studies at the University of Sydney Business School. She has a strong track-record of publishing interdisciplinary research that materially extends and challenges the current theoretical understanding of innovation management, and its interactions with related fields including strategy and international business. Maria uses process-based research methodologies to reveal new patterns of how innovation works in practice and to critically revisit established theories. She has published in top tier journals, including Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, and Organizational Research Methods among others.

Maria works closely with industry to provide an inspiring teaching environment for her students and real-life solutions for strategic challenges of partner organisations. She works with start-ups from the University of Sydney Genesis and Incubate programs as well as scientists looking to explore commercialisation opportunities for their research. Her teaching approach won multiple awards and is covered in the media.

Prior to joining the University of Sydney, Maria held a postdoc position at the London Business School. She was a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley and SINTEF, one of the largest independent research organisations in Europe. Maria has several years of practical experience, having worked for a major international bank in London.
