LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy
Dr Lucia Sorbera is a committed and innovative teacher whose practice is grounded in feminist, oral‑historical, and postcolonial approaches to the study of West Asia, North Africa, and their global entanglements. She teaches across the programs of Arabic Language and Cultures, International and Global Studies, European History, and International and Comparative Literary and Translation Studies, bringing a deeply interdisciplinary perspective to the classroom. Drawing on her international academic formation and research experience in Italy, Lebanon, Egypt, and sub‑Saharan Africa, she fosters learning environments that privilege critical inquiry, ethical engagement with sources, and cross‑cultural dialogue. Her pedagogy integrates community‑based knowledge production and creative methodologies—particularly through her collaborations with refugee artists and NGOs in Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana—to expose students to grounded, real-world perspectives on memory, trauma, gender, and social justice. Through this approach, she aims to develop reflective, analytically rigorous learners equipped to navigate and interpret complex global histories and contemporary debates.
