To investigate cortical and brainstem circuitry involved in acute and chronic pain states, as well as during the expression of pain modulatory phenomenon through the lens of high-field magnetic resonance imaging. Recent experiments integrate positron emission tomography to ascertain how during neuropathic pain astrogliosis and glial activity is perpetuating symptoms or altering baseline biology of neural circuits.
