RESEARCH INTERESTs

Professor Leanne Cutcher's internationally recognized program of research in the field Management and Organization Studies (MOS) bridges not-for-profit and profit sectors.

The focus of Leanne's current research contributes to studies of Indigenous management organisations. Specifically, this research aims to identify the strategies and practices that are produced in the spaces where Indigenous knowledges and culture meet business strategy and practice. This research builds on two existing strands of Leanne's research (i) alternative organizations and community, and (ii) discourse analysis of policies aimed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their impacts.

The first strand of research has produced a significant body of research into alternative forms of organizations, including co-operatives, community banks and social enterprises some of which has involved partnering with Indigenous organizations, including Eden Aboriginal Land Council and Traditional Credit Union.

The second complementary strand of research focuses on government policy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the shifting government discourse in relation to Australia's Indigenous procurement policy and the negative discursive construction of Aboriginal and Torres Strait women in relation to maternity allowances and misrecognition and the Stolen Wages Commissions.

Leanne is also an internationally recognised expert in the management of age in organisations, including how age intersects with gender to produce both inclusion and discrimination.

Leanne has also co-led research into the role of commemoration in organisations. She has recently completed a study co-funded by the Country Fire Association, with Graham Dwyer from Trinity College Dublin, exploring the role of memory and commemoration in fire-fighting organisations.
