BIO
Dr Fairley is a research fellow interested in developing mitochondrial therapeutics for a range of disease conditions. She was awarded her PhD in Medicine from Nanyang Technological University in 2022, and has since worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Basel, Switzerland, and as Node leader of mitochondrial research at the University of Technology Sydney. Dr Fairley is currently working on a NHMRC funded Ideas grant, investigating nanoparticle based mitochondrial therapeutics in lung disease in the laboratory of Professor Wojciech Chrzanowski.
Dr Fairley graduated with a Bachelor and Master's degree at the University of Sydney before going on to secure a J.B. Watt travelling scholarship to complete her PhD in Medicine at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU, Singapore.
After her PhD, she secured a Swiss Government Excellence Fellowship to conduct a project investigating the therapeutic efficacy of the mitochondrial translocator protein in Alzheimer's disease at the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Dr Fairley then joined the Centre for Inflammation at UTS as Node leader of mitochondrial research, where she conducted research on mitochondria-targeted therapeutics in lung disease. Shortly after, she secured an NHMRC Ideas grant to develop novel nanoparticle-based mitochondrial therapies for COPD.
