Laura Marshall is completing her PhD at the University of Sydney where she is an Associate Lecturer (Teaching Fellow) in the discipline of Japanese Studies. Her doctoral research proposes a new methodology for analysing literature in translation, 'translational reading', which seeks to draw upon the potential of translation studies for generating new insights for the literary analysis of translated texts. Her expertise is primarily in modern Japanese literature and its translation, having produced literary analyses and translations of authors including Kōda Aya, Miyamoto Yuriko, Dazai Osamu, Shimao Toshio, Kawabata Yasunari and Natsume Sōseki. Her translations of Miyamoto Yuriko’s poetry have appeared in the cross-arts e-journal UNBORDER, where she serves on the editorial board. Her article on Kōda Aya’s ‘Hina’, is forthcoming in the Journal of the Society for Asian Humanities.
