Research projects & supervision summary

Project 1: Contemporary Dichterjurist*innen

This project examines law and legal philosophy in the works of the contemporary German Dichterjurist*innenJuli Zeh, Bernhard Schlink, and Ferdinand von Schirach. My current focus is on tracing themes of legal violence in the novels of Juli Zeh.

Project 2: Vergangenheitsbewältigung in 21st century German literature

Building on the work I did in my first monograph (The version that wanted to be written: Writing the Nazi past as historiographic metafiction2021 Erich Schmidt Verlag), this project considers the way in which German-language authors are continuing to deal with the Nazi past in their fictional works in an era of multidirectional memory.

Project 3: National Socialism in German-Australian communities in the 1930s

This project will examine the impact of National Socialism on German-Australian communities in the 1930s, including through the bilingual German/English newspaper Die Brücke and the activities of the German Auslandsorganisation in Australia.
