BIO
Dr Kenya Fernandes researches fungal biology and the complex interactions between fungi, hosts, and environments. One stream of her work focuses on combating fungal pathogens by uncovering the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis and developing innovative treatment strategies, including synergistic drug combinations and the discovery of bioactive natural products. Parallel to this, she study how microbial communities shape and are shaped by pollinator environments, using bees as a model to understand the functional, ecological, and evolutionary dynamics of microbe-host interactions.
Kenya is a member of Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute (Sydney ID).
