BIO

Dr Judy (Judith) Cashmore AO is Professor Emerita (Socio-legal Research and Policy). Her research is interdisciplinary and translational, building bridges between research and its application to improve the experience and outcomes for children and young people involved in criminal and civil legal decision-making processes that affect their lives.



She is internationally recognised as a leading scholar in her field, and received significant awards for her research, which is cited in judicial judgements, inquiries and in parliamentary reforms. She has published 100+ peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and reports to reach an international and national academic and professional readership.



She has worked as a consultant to various state and federal government agencies including the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. She has been involved in numerous state and federal government committees concerning children and families.



Judy was an appointed Member of the Judicial Commission of New South Wales 2004- Dec 2024.She was visiting Professorial Fellow at the University of Otago Faculty of Law S1 2024. She has a PhD in Developmental Psychology and a Masters in Education and is an Adjunct Professor at Southern Cross University (since 2005).
