BIO
Dr Joel Hollier is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in qualitative policy analysis, focusing on mental health and disability policy in the Faculty of Medicine and Health.
Prior to this appointment, Joel joined the Social Work and Policy Studies program in 2021 after completing his PhD which explored lived experiences of trauma for LGBTQIA+ people within traditional religious settings. Joel is passionate about research which captures the stories of people who have traditionally been seen as "on the margins."
Joel has worked extensively with families and young people who face significant barriers to health and education, and was a founding member of the Ngaramadhi Health Space - a collaborative project between NSW Health and the Department of Education to develop and provide a wrap-around model of care for youth at risk.
Joel's research and practice interests include holistic frameworks of integrated care, LGBTQIA+ diversity and inclusion, mental health, and religiously mediated trauma. Joel is eager to develop and promote mental health approaches which emphasize integrated practice with the whole person.
