BIO
Dr. Jarrod Kennedy is a post-doctoral scientist in the Biogerontology Group at the ANZAC Research Institute and a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney and specializes in the intersection of nanotechnology and immunology. Current research focuses on exploration of nanodelivery systems for biologics and genetic material, as well as development of "inverse vaccines" - antigen-specific immunotherapies designed to treat autoimmune conditions such as Type 1 Diabetes. Prior to his current role, he served as a senior research scientist at the global biotechnology firm CSL where he contributed to the development of novel ex-vivo stem cell gene therapies targeting Sickle Cell Anaemia and Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome. Dr. Kennedy earned his PhD in 2018 from the University of Sydney’s Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) Research Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Allison Abendroth and Dr. Megan Steain. His doctoral research provided critical insights into how VZV infects and modulates human monocytes and macrophages to subvert the innate immune response.
