BIO
Janelle Gifford is a Senior Lecturer in nutrition within the Discipline of Exercise and Sport Science, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney where she teaches nutrition to exercise science and nutrition and dietetics students. Janelle completed a Bachelor of Business (Computing and Management Information Systems) at Charles Sturt University, and worked in information technology for five years within the life insurance industry before making a career change. She then completed a joint degree Bachelor of Science (Human Movement Science and Nutrition) and a Master of Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) at the University of Wollongong. Janelle completed a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Wollongong with research evaluating the clinical indicators and social context for developing lifestyle modification programs after gestational diabetes mellitus. Janelle completed a Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Higher Education) in 2016 at the University of Sydney. She has clinical expertise in the areas of sports dietetics and metabolic syndrome and has worked at and consulted to many elite athletes though the NSW Institute of Sport and in private practice, as well as consulting to industry.
Janelle is a qualified Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD), Advanced Sports Dietitian, and member of the Dietitians Association of Australia. She has been an APD for 20 years, and working in private practice for more than 15 years in her own business. Janelle has achieved Advanced accreditation as assessed by the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), and is one of a handful of Advanced Sports Dietitians. Janelle is currently a member of the Nutrition & Dietetics Editorial Board.
Janelle has around sixty-five publications as articles in peer reviewed journals, book chapters, reports and conference abstracts. She has presented widely at conferences nationally and internationally.
