BIO
James is passionate about breaking down barriers between educators and students, and enjoys using new and innovative approaches in his teaching practice. He is interested in Higher Education and the intersections between learning, teaching and technology.
James completed his undergraduate and PhD studies at the University of Wollongong, with his PhD research focussing on pathogenesis of the Gram-positive human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes. Following his PhD in 2014, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship that supported his investigation of extracellular vesicle formation in S. pyogenes at the Max Planck Centre for Infection Biology in Berlin, Germany.
In 2017, James returned to Australia to follow his passion for science communication and teaching at the University of Wollongong. In 2019, he joined La Trobe University in Melbourne and in this time, he developed innovative teaching approaches significantly reforming the curriculum of these units, being awarded the 2024 Vice-Chancellors Education Award. James joined the University of Sydney in 2025 as a Sydney Horizon Educator.
