RESEARCH INTERESTs
Beginning with her PhD in material culture studies and social anthropology at the University of London (University College London), the everyday design of objects, environments, patterns, and infrastructures remains a central facet of Heather's work. These include studies of migration and the material culture of home; informal learning environments in homes, afterschool programs and online environments; the movement of money across space and time; the production and consumption of mobile technologies; and, most recently, clothing and fashion. She is currently working on three key projects: a study of digital finance and farming in rural Laos and Cambodia; fintech futures in Fiji and the Pacific; and new infrastructures of connectivity including Low-Earth Orbit satellites across the Asia-Pacific region.
