BIO

Dr Glenn Stewart holds the Colin Sullivan Sleep Research Fellowship at the University of Sydney, where he leads a program of research within the multidisciplinary Charles Perkins Centre and the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Stewart completed a PhD in cardiovascular physiology at Griffith University and post-doctoral training in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic, USA. His research targets the drivers of cardiac dysfunction in health and diseases, with a primary goal of enabling rapid translation of novel cardiorespiratory physiology knowledge into clinical research and practice.

Dr Stewart has received international awards for his academic contributions to the fields of cardiovascular physiology and medicine including a Fellowship from the American Heart Association and the Earl Wood Career Development Award from Mayo Clinic. He has an extensive publication record, including editorialised original first-author publications in the Journal of Physiology and European Journal of Heart Failure, and has led FDA clinical trials assessing novel pharmacotherapies for Heart Failure. His research includes invasive and non-invasive clinical trials in heart failure, the development of novel cardiopulmonary imaging and signal processing techniques, assessment of new therapeutics in heart and lung diseases and the cardiopulmonary consequences of extreme exercise and environmental exposures.

Dr Stewart's recruitment to the Charles Perkins Centre in 2023 has embedded his research alongside a world-leading team of mentors and colleagues spanning cardiology, sleep medicine, engineering and physiology, with a primary goal of targeting the mechanisms that drive cardiorespiratory dysfunction and adverse cardiac remodelling in patients with sleep disorders and heart diseases.
